Affirmations
While prayers can generally be focused on gratitude (the starting spot) or requests, affirmations are more like directly programming your mind, heart, and subconscious.
Another older term for it is “auto-suggestion.”
Affirmations are very powerful, especially when repeated until they become like a habit or reflex.
You can make up positive affirmations any time – just start with, “I am” and add what you want to experience.
Get creative and shake it up – like a positivity brainstorm.
Affirmations can really turn your life around. It’s wise to start at a point that’s realistic, so that your subconscious doesn’t resist the autosuggestion. You can ramp it up another notch once you’ve met each step up in mental and emotional frequency.
If you hit a low point or have a backslide, you can affirm your way out of the hole, one affirmation at a time, until your vibration is high again. It’s a lot like working out.
You want to affirm your positivity verbally and emotionally and use prayer to ask for help any time that you need it.
Prayer is there when you just don’t have the energy to “drive” with your affirmations anymore and you need to just let the universe take the wheel as you rest in the passenger seat.
This is what faith feels like. Letting the immaculate universe support you and take over when you need the help.
The increased support from your nervous system and surroundings is truly incredible when you live this way – it comes in the form of the universe supporting you as well as you supporting yourself.

Notes on Prayers and Affirmations
Church of the Mushroom welcomes you to use whatever terminology fits for your genuine religious beliefs – our internal writings will avoid hostile judgements, such as banishing one’s soul to eternal suffering.
To those who’ve been traumatized by unexpectedly oppressive religious dogmas – we see, hear and feel you and we respect you. We wish you well.
We’ve also waited for proof of God to show ourselves / themselves (not “Himself”) in our lives and the lives of others directly before choosing to speak of us / them.
God is the voice inside of your heart, as well as the miraculous orchestration of all life, which you are a part of and from your perspective, at the center of. God comes from within you, is you, and is simultaneously every other life form in the multiverse, as well as nonexistence, so God comes from all you’re surrounded by and is you as well.
CotM’s knowledge and beliefs come directly from shared experiences and often from consensus – how else could we find what we all share in common?
The God we worship is of the highest vibration of unconditional love, understanding, patience, intelligence, power, and grace and they help each of us reflect our inner vibration throughout our outer reality with every earnest desire or conviction. These convictions and desires are efficiently adjusted by us and realized, using the sacred tools of prayers and affirmations.
Our desires beget creation. Unfortunately, so do our assumptions and other feelings, so please stay aware of your vibration, attitude, emotions, boundaries for your personal well being.
Keep correcting these with the patience of a Zen Master and you’ll witness miracles of positivity in your life as they gently unfold into your reality.
During my journey over the past 48 years, experimenting with prayer, off and on, I tested its effectiveness. Having been in a secular upbringing, I had almost no guidance.
Uncannily, when I was speaking my first words, I kept trying to request something from my mother. She eventually deciphered that I was asking her how to pray, or for a prayer to say.
I memorized The Lord’s Prayer when I first learned to speak, but it took decades for me tor really learn about prayer, without formal training. I tried just thinking my prayers for many years, then whispering them, then speaking them, then saying them out loud with a witness.
I didn’t realize that my prayers were even coming true, often in a pleasantly surprising way (with a different timeline or sequence of events than I had requested or visualized) until I was 44 years old, when someone who’d witnessed my prayers pointed it out to me.
I then realized that often times my prayers had come true in an unexpected (but technically correct) way, sort of like a misinterpretation. I needed to be more clear and specific when defining them. The timeline and method of manifestation have almost never been predictable.
Starting with prayers of gratitude and affirmations is like fertilizing the soil of your reality, setting the tone for the best reflections to be manifested into your reality.
God – the universe – truly does reflect your perspective, for better or for worse. Give thanks each time you’re lucky enough to notice that your prayers came true. Often this only occurs with deeper hindsight.
Ever since I noticed my prayers were generally manifesting, I started praying more than ever before, correcting myself each time that I realized it could have an undesirable outcome if not clearly described.
Since these corrections, life has been getting better rapidly – it’s only been five years since I finally had this personal confirmation – through a tough life of experimentation, trial, and error.
It’s OK to admit and quietly contemplate how you’re the center of your universe, as long as you honor that each and every life form is also at the center of their universes. It’s not just one universe in this reality and we travel to a new universe each time we make a decision, take an action, say something, etc. Quantum theory supports this perspective beautifully.
It helped when I realized that my voice was, even when I whispered, vibrating the molecules in the air around my mouth when I prayed.
I concluded that a Divine and Higher Intelligence could or would actually have the literal means to measure those vibrations and eventually even manifest those requests, as well as receive the messages of the love and gratitude or anything else when spoken.
When I visualized this system (during an LSD experience), it had me set on always saying my prayers out loud, rather than just thinking them.
While most prayers manifest in an unexpected or pleasantly surprising manner and on an generally unpredictable timeline, occasionally a prayer seems unanswerable, especially when others’ free wills are involved.
This is when I contemplate on accepting the things I cannot change and The Law of Allowing.
I then focus on gratitude and improving the things that I can change to raise my spirit back up.
Sometimes, this thing just needs to be let go, as in the Law of Detachment, and you may find even those “unchangeable” prayers eventually coming true, after you release it and allow the universe and its sacred inhabitants to just be.

An Example of a Ritual with Sacrament
I communed directly with God’s higher intelligence, by doing this, about twenty years ago:
- I made sure the whole environment was and would be safe, quiet and peaceful, with a comfortable place to lay down, as if going to sleep.
- I gave thanks for the Sacrament and laid in bed after ingesting a medium to large dose of psilocybin mushrooms (I was familiar with these mushrooms, so I knew how much to take. Different varieties, species, genus, and families of psilocybin mushrooms vary widely in potency, so I always sampled with a microdose (typically around 0.2 grams or 200mg of dried psilocybe cubensis, for example) to determine where the threshold is. This gave me a better idea of whether I even needed a larger dose. I could always take more, but if I took too much, well – that’s something I always ended up just having to ride out, for better or for worse. From decades of trial and error, I learned to start small and move up in small increments each hour (or each session) with each new variety I tried, if needed).
- I closed my eyes and calmed myself, as if going to sleep, laying on my back, with one palm over my heart center and the other over my abdomen center. The goal was to relax into the space between sleep and wakefulness.
- I breathed deeply and continued to relax, waiting patiently for the sacrament to take effect.
- I gave thanks out loud to God for letting me live my life and for whatever else I was thankful for.
- I asked God’s divine intelligence to answer questions that come up and help me listen to the answers.
- I listened carefully, watching the visions with closed eyes as they eventually occurred. I heard hear gentle responses to the questions that I posed from God’s divine intelligence through the visions, words “heard,” and sensations (almost as thoughts, but from my heart’s center and the higher planes – the responses occurred just before my thoughts occurred, which is a delicate way to discern the difference between thinking and receiving divine guidance).
- When it was over, I recorded the journey and gave thanks to the sacrament, as well as God, who I communed with, and to myself for having the courage to explore where some may never explore.
